Why people are talking about it
Prebiotic sodas are one of the biggest drink trends of the past few years, with brightly coloured cans everywhere. Homemade versions are all over social media.
Why it's gut-friendly
Inulin (chicory root fibre) is a prebiotic, meaning it feeds the bacteria already in your gut.
Ingredients
- ½ tsp inulin powder
- 60 ml water
- Small handful of raspberries
- Juice of 1 lime
- 1 tsp honey (optional)
- 180 ml chilled sparkling water
- Ice
Method
- Muddle the raspberries in a glass with the water.
- Stir in the inulin and honey until dissolved.
- Add lime juice and ice.
- Top with sparkling water and stir gently.
Good to know
Inulin is high in FODMAPs, so start with half a teaspoon and skip it if you follow a low-FODMAP diet.
