Why people are talking about it
Kefir has gone from health-food-shop niche to supermarket fridge staple, and it's a regular in 'what I eat for my gut' videos.
Why it's gut-friendly
Kefir is fermented milk containing live cultures. Berries, oats and flaxseed add fibre for your gut bacteria to feed on.
Ingredients
- 1 cup (250 ml) plain kefir
- 1 cup frozen mixed berries
- ½ banana
- 2 tbsp rolled oats
- 1 tbsp ground flaxseed
- Honey to taste
Method
- Put everything in a blender.
- Blend until smooth, adding a splash of water if it's too thick.
- Taste, sweeten if needed, and drink straight away.
Make it yours
- Green version: swap berries for spinach, mango and mint.
- Add a spoon of nut butter for extra staying power.
- Freeze into ice-block moulds for kids.
